New - Childrens Arts Tax Credit

The government anounced recently that a new tax credit will be available in 2011 for children who are involved in arts programs.  If your child is involved in a program focusing on fine arts, music, performing arts, outdoor wilderness training, learning a language, studying a culture, tutoring, and more. Relief From Tax On Overcontributions to Tax Free Savings Account

The CRA has anounced that they recognize some taxpayers are still unclear about the rules applicable to the Tax Free Savings Account.  Consequently, taxpayers who receive a letter that they have overcontributed should respond to CRA immediately.  CRA might waive taxes on excess contributions if it can be shown that you had a genuine misunderstanding of the rules.  Please contact our office if you require assistance in this regard.

New - Electronic Filing Requirement For Some HST Filers

If your business had in excess of $1.5million in taxable supplies (ie. sales) in the last fiscal year, it is required to begin filing HST returns electronically starting with the first reporting period ending after July 1, 2010.  There are basically 2 practical electronic filing options available - Telefile or Net File.  Contact us to find out more.
